In October of 2017, ProBed was honoured to assist a New England family in need. Partnering with the Jett Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness and funds for Duchenne muscular dystrophy, ProBed helped the Gaudenzi family take possession of a Freedom Bed lateral rotation sleep system by collaborating with the Jett Giving Fund. ProBed Medical is pleased to participate and give back to those in our community affected by immobility.

Hello everyone Ralph here. I wanted to share a story with you about how something changed my life.
You see when I was two years old I was diagnosed with a disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy type 2. (SMA) it was at that same age where doctors told me I wasn't going to make it past the age of Ten. But by a miracle and good care I was able to make it to the age I’m at now.
Critically ill patients and those living with the challenges of paraplegia and quadriplegia are particularly prone to both pulmonary complications and pressure-related injuries, more commonly referred to as bedsores. Thankfully, the 1970’s saw the introduction of Continuous Lateral Rotation Therapy (CLRT) as a profound and progressive treatment protocol for individuals dealing with the ongoing effects of immobility and prolonged bed rest.
Approximately 30 years ago, a teenage boy was enjoying an afternoon of mountain biking in the mountainous interior of British Columbia, Canada. An unforeseen root, or other object, caused him to be thrown from his bike, rendering him a quadriplegic.
Life dictates that our parents assume the role as our primary caregivers until we can care for ourselves. Somewhere along life’s journey, we may be called upon to assume the role of caregivers for them due to age and/or disability.
When we’re children, our parents do everything in their power to make our lives as perfect as possible. As kids, we’re the recipients of lovingly cooked meals, bedtime stories and all the other little things that help us to feel loved, protected and like we truly matter.

Raising a child into a dependable and intelligent adult isn’t just a gratifying success for any parent, it’s a responsibility that helps develop the world and transforms societies; gifting these same traits onto our communities for future generations.
