Learn How The Freedom Bed™ Helps Manage Spasticity and Positioning Challenges for Those with Cerebral Palsy
Cerebral palsy presents complex positioning challenges that extend beyond simple mobility limitations, with muscle spasticity, involuntary movements, and abnormal tone patterns creating constant struggles for comfortable, therapeutic positioning. The Freedom Bed™ provides essential support for individuals with all forms of cerebral palsy, from mild involvement to severe quadriplegia, offering automated positioning that manages spasticity, prevents contractures, and enables restorative sleep that profoundly impacts overall development and quality of life.
Individuals with cerebral palsy often experience severe muscle spasticity that intensifies during sleep, leading to painful positioning, restricted breathing, and frequent awakening that disrupts the deep sleep essential for growth, learning, and emotional regulation. The constant muscle tension creates pressure points at bony prominences, while involuntary movements and inability to reposition independently significantly increase the risk of pressure injuries.
Parents of children with cerebral palsy consistently report that the Freedom Bed™ transforms not just nighttime but entire family dynamics, as well-rested children show dramatic improvements in daytime behaviour, learning capacity, therapy participation, and emotional regulation. The bed grows with users from early childhood through adulthood, adapting to changing needs while providing consistent support that enables individuals to reach their maximum potential.
Complications associated with immobility include:
The Freedom Bed™ is a specialized computer-controlled lateral rotation therapy system designed to address the complex positioning and spasticity management needs of individuals with cerebral palsy throughout their lifetime. This advanced therapy bed features smooth, programmable rotation that can be customized to work with, rather than against, abnormal tone patterns.
The Freedom Bed™ automatically provides gentle lateral rotation throughout the night using smooth, predictable movements that help regulate muscle tone without triggering the startled responses common when individuals with CP are manually repositioned. The system rotates through programmable angles that can be set to avoid positions that increase spasticity while maintaining therapeutic positions that promote range of motion and prevent contracture development. For individuals with fluctuating tone, the bed's consistent rhythm helps establish a calming pattern that many users find regulating, similar to the soothing effects of rhythmic rocking. The bed operates quietly without sudden movements or pressure changes, allowing individuals to remain in deeper sleep phases essential for growth hormone release, neurological development, and the physical recovery necessary for participating in daily therapy programs.
The Freedom Bed™ dramatically improves quality of life for individuals with cerebral palsy by managing spasticity through position changes that reduce muscle tension and prevent the painful cramping that often disrupts sleep and causes morning discomfort. Regular repositioning prevents pressure injuries at vulnerable areas where abnormal tone creates constant pressure, while maintaining joint flexibility crucial for preserving function and preventing surgery. The improved sleep quality translates directly to better daytime functioning, with families reporting enhanced attention during school, increased participation in therapy sessions, reduced irritability, and improved seizure control in those with concurrent epilepsy. For parents and caregivers, the Freedom Bed™ eliminates the physically demanding and often dangerous task of repositioning a child with high tone, reducing caregiver injuries while allowing families to rest and recharge.
It has been almost a year since I got my Freedom Bed. The muscles in my arms and legs are very weak, and I am unable to turn myself in the bed. The bed rotates in a lateral direction, keeping me from having an attendant do this during the day and night. "The angle of rotation and the frequency of rotation can be programmed according to the needs of the patient. In spite of its functionality, the Freedom Bed is very attractive and does not look like a hospital bed. I would recommend the Freedom Bed for any patient."

"Following a massive stroke, my mother used the Freedom Bed by ProBed for 14 months before passing away from cardiac issues. She was largely bed bound during this time and the Freedom Bed worked flawlessly. While using the bed she suffered no bed or pressure sores. In fact, the only issue we had in this regard was when she was in the hospital, away from her Freedom Bed. The company is very hands-on, starting with a comprehensive, in-person instructions, and her caregivers had no problems learning how to use and operate the bed. Likewise my mother had no issues adjusting to the slow movement of the bed while she slept. The product is really only surpassed by the excellent customer service. ProBed was there for any questions, any time of the day, even in the middle of the night. Two thumbs up, or five stars as they say. The product really helped our family during a difficult period."

"I'm writing to tell you how your wonderful Freedom Bed has improved our lives. Ryan hasn't had pneumonia in 18 months and no new pressure sores. His skin is healthy and he is comfortable. His lungs are clear and he and he now has enough strength to blow out a candle. As an 11-year-old Quad with a rare disorder and multiple past surgeries, Ryan was either getting sick, or getting over being sick but his Freedom Bed changed all that. His doctors are, of course, pleased, and I must say that they are also quite impressed at the difference Ryan's bed has made in his health in the 18 months he has had it. The quality of this bed is also remarkable it hasn't needed any service or repair and is easy to operate. And I also like how it looks in his bedroom - no "Institutional Look" here! Thank you so much! We would recommend the Freedom Bed to anyone!"
